Kids' Daily Bible Recommended

We would like to encourage you to purchase Day by Day Kid’s Bible or God’s Story by Karyn Henley.  They are the same daily Bible; just different editions.  You can find them at Amazon or Lifeway.

This daily Bible is written in story form in chronological order.  It will take your children 7 minutes a day to read.  I hope that your elementary children will participate with your family and the church family as we read through the Bible over the next 365 days!!

SUMMIT is Here!

ImageOur SUMMIT pages for elementary students were distributed for worship Sunday, January 3, 2010 and will be available for them each Sunday thereafter.  We will also have special Bibles for them to use.  They can pick them up at the Information Desk and return them after worship.

These are activity pages designed to help pull your child into the lesson/sermon for that Sunday.

They have a reading assignment (they won’t have to do if they’ve been reading during the week) with puzzles for application of their reading.  You may check out a “Day by Day” Kids Bible from the information desk if you don’t have one or forget yours.  We will have pencils available there also.

Don’t forget that on the back of SUMMIT pages are activities for your family that matches the theme of our weekly Bible reading.

Remember all this information is for you and your family to choose what is best for your family.  They are suggestions not requirements! Pick what fits into your schedule and do it well!

PEAK – Mountaintop Worship for Kids

ImageWe are excited to let you know about our new Children’s Worship that started January 24th.  We’re calling it PEAK – Mountaintop Worship for Kids.  In PEAK, our children 2 through 6 years olds will learn that worship is for them and they can be powerfully engaged in praising the Lord.

We will use children’s songs, age appropriate lessons, active scripture memorization, puppets and drama to help bring worship to life for our kids. PEAK will meet during early worship, and our lessons will follow along through the chronological Bible, just like the rest of PV.

We already have about 50 children enrolled and are thrilled to help our kids be powerfully engaged in adoration of the King!

Flu Season is Upon Us

Dear Parents,

Many of us are concerned about the flu season.  We want you to know that we are taking the precautions necessary to ensure a healthy environment for your children to learn about God.

Our teaching staff will be working with us as we work to make this an inviting place for your child.

Image Here is a complete list of our guidelines.

PV Children’s Ministry Health Guidelines

Prevention Reminders

□    Students and staff with flu-like symptoms need to stay home at least 24 hrs AFTER having no fever or signs of a fever
□    This should be determined without the use of fever-reducing medications
□    In high risk healthcare setting such as child care facilities; students and facility with a confirmed case – a 7- day period away from school would be recommended

□    Practice good hand hygiene.  Students and staff should wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing.  Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
□    The main way the flu is spread is thru coughing or sneezing, so it is important to cough and sneeze into a tissue or cough and sneeze into their elbow or shoulder.
□    Stay home if you’re sick.  Keep sick students home.  This means that the virus stays put and is not spread.

□    Teach children to wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds (as long as it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice)
□    Alcohol-based hand cleaners need to contain 60% alcohol.

Steps We Are Taking

□    Remind students about coughing and sneezing procedures
□    Easy access to tissues and hand sanitizers
□    Additional disinfecting of  surfaces, objects and items that have frequent hand contact
□    Students that become ill will be moved to a separate room until their parents can be located to take them home
□    Steps will be taken to do an Active symptom screening of students and staff upon arrival
□    We ask that you inform the person in charge if you have a “confirmed” case of the flu. Kathy Carter, Nursery; Linda Parker, Preschool-Kindergarten; Tina Brown, Elementary

Action Steps to Prevent the Spread of Flu

□    Educate and encourage students and staff to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when they sneeze or cough.  Use warm water and soap or alcohol-based hand cleaners.  Remind them to cover coughs or sneezes with their elbow or shoulder when a tissue is not available.
□    Remind teachers, staff and students to practice good hand hygiene
□    Additional Cleaning of  surfaces and items that have frequent hand contact
□    Move sick students to separate room
□    Conduct active fever and symptom screening of students, staff and teachers upon arrival

Note: CAC and PV Days School are following similar guidelines.  Both schools are leaving the classrooms sanitized for us on Sunday and we in turn will be leaving the classrooms sanitized for them on Monday.

Letter From Children’s Ministry Directors

Dear Pleasant Valley Family,

We are excited about our new roles in the PVCC Children’s Ministry.  Our new “team” ministry approach will allow each of us to be highly focused on specific areas while still drawing from the expertise of each team member.  The ministry responsibilities are divided between Kathy Carter in Day School and Nursery, Linda Parker in Preschool (2’s through Kindergarten), and Tina Brown in Elementary (1st through 6th).

Our goal is that children’s ministry be centered on knowing God, building relationships, and learning to serve. We want to lay a strong spiritual foundation for our children as we work with teachers and parents to provide the tools and resources you need.

Please be praying for us as we unite around the common cause of loving and leading our children in serving the Lord together.

In His Service,

Tina Brown, Kathy Carter, Linda Parker
PV Children’s Ministry Team

Prayer From Scripture

Week of March 7: “Heavenly Father, may Your children be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. In Christ: Amen.” ~ Colossians 2:2-3
